 Robert
B. Catell, age 62, is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of KeySpan
Energy, a holding company that was created in 1998 when the parent
company of Brooklyn Union combined with the Long Island Lighting
Company. He is also Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Brooklyn Union.
Mr. Catell joined Brooklyn Union in 1958. His rise
through the managerial ranks culminated in his 1991 election as
Brooklyn Union's President and Chief Executive Office. He was named
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in 1996.
Mr. Catell is a Director and Chairman of the Gas Research
Institute. He is a past Chairman of the American Gas Association.
Mr. Catell is also on the Board of Directors of the New York State
Energy Research and Development Authority, and a Director of the
Interstate Natural Gas Association of America. Additionally, he
serves as a Director and Vice Chairman of the New York City Partnership,
and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Energy Association
of New York State. Mr. Catell is a Director of the New York City
Investment Fund and the Business Council for a Sustainable Energy
Future. He serves on Chase's Metropolitan Advisory Board, the Council
for Environmental Quality, the Committee for Economic Development,
and the Mayor's Private Sector Committee on Information Technology.
Mr. Catell is a founding member of the New York City Public Private
Partnership. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Empire
State Business Alliance. He is a member of the National Petroleum
Council and the Society of Gas Lighting. He is a member and past
Chairman of the Advisory Board of the City College of New York's
School of Engineering. Mr. Catell is a Director and Vice Chairman
of the Long Island Association, a Director and founding member of
the Long Island Foreign Affairs Forum, Inc., and a Board member
of the Edison Electric Institute.
His further contributions to the community include
serving as a Trustee of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the Brooklyn
Public Library, Brooklyn Law School and Brooklyn Academy of Music.
He is a member of the Advisory Board of HeartShare for Human Services.
He also serves as Chairman of the Board of the Utility Business
Education Coalition. He is a former Chairman and currently serves
on the Executive Committee of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to his numerous business and cultural
activities, Mr. Catell is a Trustee of Independence Community Bank.
He is Chairman and Director of both Boundary Gas Inc. and Alberta
Northeast Inc., two consortia of distribution companies formed to
purchase Canadian gas. He is Chairman of the Board of Directors
of Taylor Gas Liquids, Ltd., a publicly traded royalty trust based
in Canada. Mr. Catell is also Chairman of the Board of the Houston
Exploration Company, a publicly traded company on the New York Stock
Exchange.
Mr. Catell received both his Bachelor's and Master's
degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the City College of New York
and is a Registered Professional Engineer. He has attended Columbia
University's Executive Development Program, and the Advanced management
Program at the Harvard Business School.
Mr. Catell lives in Garden City with his wife, Joan.
They have two daughters.
