NYSERDA seeks a Project Manager to help develop and implement an innovative, technically credible energy education program for K-12 teachers. The energy education program covers a range of activities designed to enhance energy education including free teacher workshops and curricular materials. In this role, you will interact on a regular basis with one or more contractors, approximately 30 Energy Educators, the Department of Environmental Conservation and the State Education Department and may manage up to two direct reports. This position requires 10 to 15% travel.
Subject to change based on program needs, the Project Manager’s primary responsibilities will be to:
- Develop and monitor statements of work and budget for Energy Smart Students implementation contractors. The contractor is responsible for training and support of up to 30 Energy Educators in the delivery of an estimated 100 energy literacy workshops each year for an estimated 1,500 teachers.
- Coordinate the review and approval of program materials including a bi-monthly newsletter, workshop marketing materials, website partner pages, program database, and program reports
- Participate in Energy Smart Students team to plan and coordinate program activities with other NYSERDA staff
- Oversee development of agenda and materials for a 4-day Energy Educator Institute held each summer to introduce new Energy Educators to the activities based energy literacy materials and enhance the skills of returning energy educators
- Develop and implement processes for selection, training, and support of Energy Educators
- Recommend modifications to the Energy Educator Participation Agreements and updating the program procedures manual
Required minimum qualifications an individual must possess include:
- Having the knowledge and skills to define energy education issues and manage one or more contractors responsible for supporting up to 30 energy educators
Preference will be given to those individuals who also possess the following:
- Knowledge of project-based learning that emphasizes learning activities that are interdisciplinary, student-centered and integrated with real world issues and practices
- Interest and qualifications to be a champion for energy literacy and sustainability

Desktop Support Technician

NYSERDA seeks a qualified and motivated individual to join its Information Technology team as a Desktop Support Technician. The technician will be part of a team responsible for the organization’s technical support and the help desk. Occasional travel within NYS is required.
The Desktop Support Technician’s primary responsibilities will be to:
- Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end user workstation hardware, networked peripheral devices and networking hardware products
- Perform on-site analysis, diagnosis and resolution of complex PC problems for a variety of end users and recommend and implement corrective hardware solutions, including warranty repair as needed
- Communicate software and hardware problems and issues to software development and support teams as well as end users

Project Manager, Clean Energy
Research and Market Development

NYSERDA seeks an independent, creative individual to design and implement programs to increase the opportunities for renewable energy and clean energy companies to commercialize new products and grow their business. A particular focus will be on early stage companies. This position is responsible for approximately a $10 million budget for the first 3 years that will result in 40-50 projects and requires 10 – 15% travel.
The Project Manager’s primary responsibilities will be to:
- Assess the opportunities for new business development and product commercialization in the renewable and clean energy business sector in New York State
- Evaluate and define the role of NYSERDA in the expansion of the renewable and clean energy business sector and design a portfolio of programs to achieve program success
- Develop and implement efforts to increase the awareness of NYSERDA programs to companies internal and external to New York State
- Develop and implement strategies to regularly measure and communicate program results and use that information to make any necessary changes to the program
- Implement procedures to effectively manage projects to insure maximum likelihood of success and prudent use of NYSERDA financial resources
Required minimum qualifications an individual must possess include:
- At least three years direct experience managing technical projects in the renewable and clean energy business sector
- At least three years direct experience marketing programs in the renewable and clean energy business sector
- At least one year direct experience in evaluating programs in the renewable and clean energy business sector
- Demonstrated ability to develop relationships with key stakeholder groups including governmental agencies at the Federal and State level involved in clean energy
- Strong communication and computer skills
Preference will be given to those candidates who also possess the following:
- The ability to analyze energy related issues and technologies in physical, management and economic terms; and quickly learn and communicate complex technical concepts to a broad audience.
Minimum educational requirements an individual must possess include:
- A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering management; physical, chemical or biological sciences; architecture or other technical degree or

DIRECTOR OF ENERGY PROGRAMS
New York City Office
NYSERDA seeks a Director of Energy Programs (NYC) to lead NYSERDA’s program activities in the Downstate Region (generally the Con Edison Service Territory). The Director will plan, coordinate, and implement NYSERDA’s program offerings for commercial, industrial, and residential customers in the Downstate region. The Director will report to NYSERDA’s Vice President for Programs and be responsible for overseeing approximately 20 professional regional office staff, while also closely coordinating with NYSERDA’s Albany office management and program staff.
NYSERDA offers a range of energy efficiency, market transformation, product acquisition, peak load reduction, renewable energy resource, and research and development programs designed to reduce energy consumption, increase grid reliability and encourage clean energy supply services. Technical assistance, training, and a range of financial incentives and programs have been designed and implemented to achieve these objectives. In addition, programs have been developed to reduce the energy burden for the state’s low-income populations and small businesses and institutions.
The Director must have experience with the residential and/or commercial energy markets in the Downstate region along with the knowledge and skills to define energy issues, address energy policies, address environmental and economic development opportunities, and deliver energy programs to all sectors. In particular, the Director must be able to identify the unique conditions and challenges of the Downstate region, and coordinate marketing, incentive structures, and special requirements with other NYSERDA Directors to enable effective delivery of statewide and regional programs.
The Director must also have the ability to work effectively in complex, multi-organizational teams, with the goal of developing well-coordinated programs and strong working relationships with governmental, utility, and business stakeholders. The Director must increase NYSERDA's presence before key consumer groups and associations, and establish good working arrangements to facilitate broad program deployment in support of their members' energy needs.
The Director will have budgetary responsibilities and is part of the Senior Management Team and a key member in helping to set priorities and operational plans for all of NYSERDA.
The Director must possess the communication and management skills necessary to supervise and provide for continued development of professional staff, maintain strong relationships between NYSERDA staff in multiple office locations, interact and manage relationships with key stakeholders, and build political and organizational support for NYSERDA’s programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, energy policy, building science, marketing, business management, or related field, with a minimum of seven years of relevant technical experience, and three years managerial experience is required. An unrelated Bachelor’s degree plus ten years of relevant technical experience and five years managerial experience will also be considered. Relevant master’s degree is strongly preferred. A P.E. or A.I.A. is a plus but not required.
Salary:

PROJECT MANAGER, Home Performance Programs
Residential Efficiency and Affordability Program (REAP)

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is seeking a person for a Project Manager position to work in the Residential Efficiency and Affordability Program (REAP) group. The person will be an integral part of a dynamic team responsible for the administration of NYSERDA’s innovative, market-based energy efficiency programs that target the new and existing, 1-4 family residential housing markets. These programs, collectively known as the Home Performance Programs consist of the New York ENERGY STAR® Homes (new construction) and Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® (existing housing) Programs. The person should have experience in developing policy for, and management of, residential energy efficiency programs and an understanding of the market, including new home builders and developers, home improvement contractors, housing advocacy groups and governmental agencies (Federal and State) involved in construction and management of residential housing. Experience in residential construction and a background in building science is also preferred.
Under direction of the Program Manager, the person will be part of the team that administers the low-rise residential market transformation projects related to quality installation of subsystems within this building type, associated building and product codes and standards, and trade specific barriers for implementing products and services. The person will coordinate with other national and regional programs and organizations, as well as industry manufacture and distributor representatives.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in architecture, environmental science, building technology, construction or project management, urban planning/public administration, business, or a related degree focused on energy efficiency, building technology or engineering. A Master’s degree is a plus.
Strong technical background and knowledge of residential energy efficiency issues, technologies and products, as well as the national ENERGY STAR® program is preferred. Previous supervisory responsibility is desirable.

Database Administrator (PeopleSoft Financials)

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to join its 240+ person, technology oriented public benefit corporation, and to assist in the implementation of, and ongoing support for, Oracle PeopleSoft Enterprise suite (Financials, Purchasing, Strategic Sourcing, eSupplier Connection, Supplier Contract Management, Project Costing, Grants, Contracts, and Asset Management).
The person will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the PeopleSoft databases, working with developers to monitor system performance and administer new and existing Peoplesoft environments, and performing installations, upgrades, and maintenance of software databases. The person will develop and document standards for proper database administration, in particular, database security and integrity, and recovery procedures. The person will provide user access requirements based on analysis of system function and end user service needs, ensuring accuracy and quality results via testing and validation. The person will ensure that all patches and upgrades are fully tested before being implemented. The person will manage performance issues across multiple applications, and will facilitate root cause analysis to resolve database issues. The person will perform benchmarking analysis to properly size hardware platforms.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Mathematics or equivalent. Non-related Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. degree will also be given consideration with a minimum of three years relevant DBA experience required. Demonstrated experience managing Microsoft SQL Server (versions 2000 and 2005) environments is required. Prior experience with PeopleSoft Financials is preferred.
