Below is a selected list of programs that provide funding to help grow or establish your business in New York. Funding to develop and improve products and systems

Technical Assistance (PON 1197)

The program is seeking applications from facilities interested in energy efficiency technical evaluations, peak-load reduction studies, energy procurement analysis, proposals that study the feasibility of implementing combined heat & power (CHP) and renewable generation, and Peak Load Curtailment Plans.

Industrial Process and Product Innovation (PON 1276)-

Type of Funding:  Up to $400,000 for demonstration or commercialization projects or up to $75,000 for feasibility projects.

Eligible Technologies:  Innovative technologies that provide energy benefits to an industrial process in New York State in the manufacturing or agricultural sectors are eligible.  Technology developers who intend to produce a technology that could have a benefit for other industrial firms or technology users who intend to use an innovative manufacturing process that will give them an energy benefit may apply.

Deadline:  Proposals due September 22, 2009.

Funding for business development and expansion

Clean Energy Business Growth & Development (PON 1260) -

Type of Funding:  Up to $200,000 per project to support business activities that aid in the expansion of the clean energy industry by reducing the financial risk associated with:

  • commercializing innovative technologies,
  • supporting entrepreneurial enterprise,
  • supporting entering new markets and lines of business, and
  • implementing new business models.

Eligible Technologies:  Clean energy technologies, including energy and power generation from renewable resources, as well as energy efficient technologies in the power generation, energy storage, transportation, industrial, or building sectors that use alternative fuels or reduce the consumption of fossil fuels and provide environmental benefits. 

Deadlines:  Proposals due August 4, 2009, January 6, 2010, June 2, 2010, or November 3, 2010.

Funding for facility set-up and improvements

Manufacturing Incentive Program (PON 1176) -

Type of Funding:  Up to $1.5 million per facility to establish manufacturing facilities in New York.

Eligible Technologies:  Clean or renewable power generation technologies that use alternative fuels or reduce the consumption of fossil fuels and provide environmental benefits, as well was energy efficient products that result in a substantial decrease of electricity use compared to the status quo.

Deadline:  Proposals may be submitted any time until June 30, 2011.

New Construction Program (PON 1222)-

Type of Funding:  Provides technical and financial assistance; incentives cover a significant portion of the incremental costs of the energy efficiency measures.

Eligible Applications:  Design and installation of energy-efficiency measures into new and substantially renovated buildings. 

Deadline:  Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Existing Facilities Program (PON 1219) -

Type of Funding:  Up to $30,000 for pre-qualifed measures for small projects.  Incentives for larger projects are paid based on performance and are typically higher than incentives for pre-qualified measures. 

Eligible Applications:  Installation of equipment to reduce energy use, enable facilities to participate in demand response programs, or install combined heat and power equipment for existing non-residential facilities.

Deadline:  Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis through June 30, 2010.

Upcoming Funding Opportunities

  • Environmentally-Preferred Power Systems and Energy Storage Technology (anticipated release date TBD) - provides funding for product/technology development and demonstration of environmentally-preferred power systems including renewable, clean-energy, and energy storage technologies.

  • Wind and/or Photovoltaic Test and Research Center Development (anticipated release date: TBD) - will establish centers to meet industry and customer needs by providing performance-based testing and research of PV and wind products.

Programs to Accelerate Markets for Clean Technologies

In order to stimulate markets for renewable energy systems, NYSERDA provides funding to install the following types of renewable energy systems:
