Focus on Healthcare

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s (NYSERDA’s) Focus on Healthcare is an initiative designed to assist the healthcare industry with reducing energy costs and improving the environment while enhancing the treatment of patients. The Focus on Healthcare effort provides hospital and nursing home operators with a single point of entry to access NYSERDA programs and helps them improve their organizations’ energy performance.

NYSERDA services, including energy studies, benchmarking, and financial incentives through the New York Energy $martSM program, can help healthcare facilities make informed energy-efficiency decisions and implementing energy-saving strategies.

HOW CAN FOCUS ON HEALTHCARE HELP IMPLEMENT ENERGY EFFICIENCY MEASURES?

  • Identify opportunities for energy savings
  • Evaluate return on investment
  • Develop and implement an energy action plan
  • Identify energy efficiency measures
  • Use tools to assist in project implementation
  • Provide access to NYSERDA resources

Energy Efficiency Incentives

NYSERDA has funding available for energy efficiency improvements in hospitals and healthcare facilities for new construction, renovations, energy efficiency planning and studies, or equipment upgrades. Focus on Healthcare will identify the range of NYSERDA incentives available for all qualified improvements. Additional funding also could be identified from city, state, federal, and non-governmental sources.

To help identify energy saving opportunities at healthcare facilities, NYSERDA shares the costs for the use of any qualified energy engineering firm through its FlexTech and Technical Assistance Programs.

For implementation projects, financial incentives are available for new energy-efficient equipment and equipment replacement projects through the Existing Facilities Program.

Healthcare facilities building new facilities or doing gut renovations of old buildings are eligible for technical assistance, system and equipment, and green building incentives through the New Construction Program.
