Albany, NY (August 31, 2004) - The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) announced that Warren Electric Supply, Inc. of Queensbury is the winner in the New York Energy $martSM Small Commercial Lighting Program Installation (SCLP) Competition for the second quarter of 2004. The award recognizes those participating companies (Allies) that are the most active in supplying or installing projects during the previous quarter. The new lighting systems provide better lit spaces for employees and customers, while saving New York small businesses thousands of dollars in energy and maintenance costs.
"Warren Electric Supply is proud to be a NYSERDA Ally Distributor," said Ed Makovitch, General Sales Manager of the company's Albany facility. "Our partnership with NYSERDA and SCLP has really helped our customers save on their energy bills while improving the quality of lighting upgrades."
Peter R. Smith, President of NYSERDA said, "The Small Commercial Lighting Program's quarterly awards are NYSERDA's recognition of companies that promote effective, energy-efficient lighting systems throughout the State. Governor Pataki has urged New Yorkers to become more energy efficient, and the use of this type of lighting is one way businesses are answering that call. Energy-efficient lighting not only provides high-quality lighting to businesses, but also helps them lower their energy costs."
Warren Electric Supply, which has five branch locations in the Capital District, received the $1,000 award for most qualifying projects supplied in the Small Commercial Lighting Program by a large supplier/distributor. The company was founded in 1983 and has more than 50 employees.
The Small Commercial Lighting Program, which is open to lighting distributors, contractors, designers, and manufacturers, promotes efficient lighting products and designs for commercial spaces between 1,000 and 25,000 square feet. To date, more than 1 million square feet of small, commercial building space in New York State has been upgraded to effective, energy-efficient lighting through this program. This has resulted in an annual energy savings of more than 6 million kilowatt hours, which is equivalent to the electricity used by more than 1,000 New York State households a year.
Funding for the awards comes from the New York Energy $martSM program which is designed to lower electricity costs by encouraging energy efficiency. Programs are available to electric distribution customers of Central Hudson Gas and Electric, Consolidated Edison, New York State Electric and Gas, Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, Orange and Rockland Utilities, and Rochester Gas and Electric, and to the businesses that sell energy-efficient equipment and services to those customers. All New York Energy $martSM programs are funded by a System Benefits Charge (SBC) paid by the customers of these utility companies.
