New York -- New York State biodiesel technology provider, NextGen Fuel Inc., has entered into an international license agreement with Singapore based CMS Resources Pte Ltd. which will deploy its biodiesel process technology across the Southeast Asia market. The biodiesel processing technology was originally developed in partnership with Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York. NextGen has worked to commercialize the technology with assistance from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) as well as with the assistance of New York State Senator James Wright, Chair of the Senate Telecommunications and Energy Committee. A grant from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has also played a role in assisting this innovative project.
Under the terms of the agreement, NextGen receives an upfront licensing fee, and a royalty, for every unit that is produced in Southeast Asia by CMS for the next twenty years. In turn, CMS Resources, which has extensive commercial ties throughout Asia, receives a license to use, manufacture, and sell the biodiesel processing technology within the stated territory. CMS intends to develop a significant biodiesel production capability in-house, while promoting NextGen's technology to potential customers throughout the territory on a turn key and joint venture basis.
New York State Senator James Wright observed, "NextGen Fuel is just one example of how New York State can work to help new businesses commercialize innovations from our outstanding research institutions to spur knowledge based economic development in rural areas. It is also an example of how our rural business can extend a global reach."
Peter Smith, the President of NYSERDA commented, "New York State is committed to innovation and economic development that will not only improve the energy and environmental landscape in our State, but across our great Nation and around the world. This will also support Governor Pataki's commitment to reduce our dependence on imported petroleum."
Jeff DeWeese, Chief Executive Officer of NextGen Fuel Inc. said, "This is a significant business transaction for a New York State technology company and will lead to job growth and wealth creation in upstate New York. This is a great example how industry can work in conjunction with government through Governor Pataki's and Senator Wright's vision that results in technology transfer on a local, and international scale." DeWeese added "This is particularly meaningful given the fact that Southeast Asia has become the worlds' fastest growing region for biodiesel production. In view of Singapore's preeminence in that region as hub for petroleum refining, commerce, trade and finance, and because of its close bi-lateral and trade ties with the U.S., it is an ideal locale from which to promote our technology in Asia through our close linkage with CMS Resources."
"We are excited to be a part of this unique technology and grateful to New York State for their support. We are looking forward to building an infrastructure of biodiesel capacity based on this technology," said Roger Sherman, a Director and Lead Developer for CMS Resources.
NextGen Fuel Inc. is a leader in developing biodiesel process technology, and bioheating fuel solutions. NextGen's technology can lower the capital cost of a biodiesel processing plant by fifty percent, as well as significantly improve plant-operating efficiencies. NextGen is headquartered in Potsdam, NY and has operations throughout the Northeast.
