NYSERDA Announces Competitive Solicitation to Fund Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy, and Alternative-Fuel Vehicle Projects
$74 million in stimulus funds available for local governments, public K-12 schools, public colleges and universities, hospitals, and not-for-profit organizations
Albany, NY-- The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) today announced additional funding for local governments, public K-12 schools, public universities and colleges, hospitals, and not-for-profit organization through the State Energy Program (SEP) of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). $74 million is available on a competitive basis to fund the installation of energy efficiency measures, renewable energy systems, and for the introduction of alternative fuel vehicles into fleets.
"As I outlined in my New Economy Jobs Plan, capitalizing on federal stimulus funding, especially for clean energy, will drive economic recovery now and make our State more efficient and competitive for the future. These funds will provide resources to local communities across the State that will put New Yorkers back to work and will reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. Moreover, these projects will also reduce energy costs that will save taxpayers and consumers money,” Governor David A. Paterson said.
"The State Energy Program complements Governor Paterson’s comprehensive energy agenda, which will make New York the most energy efficient state in the nation, encourage the use of renewable energy technologies and tackle the crisis of global warming,” said Francis J. Murray Jr., President and CEO of NYSERDA. “Municipalities, schools, hospitals, public colleges and universities, and not-for-profit organizations will have more resources to invest in projects and technologies that will stimulate job growth, reduce energy consumption, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and protect our environment; a win-win for all New Yorkers.”
The State Energy Program will provide incentives for the installation of eligible energy efficiency measures, renewable energy systems, and purchase of alternative fuel vehicles. Projects might include: lighting, cooling, heating, motor, and building envelope measures; combined heat and power and geothermal installations; and solar thermal and photovoltaic systems. Light- and medium-duty vehicles fueled by natural gas, propane, hydrogen, or those that use electricity stored or generated on board as the primary fuel, and anti-energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.
