Sigurdson Named NYSERDA Western NY Project Manager

Buffalo, May 20 -- The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) today named Peter Sigurdson, 41 of Alden, Project Manager of its newly opened Western New York Regional Office. He will manage government relations and communications related to economic development and energy conservation across 14 western New York counties, including the Finger Lakes, Greater Rochester and Niagara Frontier counties.

Included in his responsibilities will be integrating NYSERDA's program benefits into those offered by the USA Niagara Development Corporation, an effort spearheaded by Governor George Pataki's interest in developing the Niagara Falls region.

"NYSERDA welcomes Mr. Sigurdson to our Western New York team. He brings nearly two decades of State and local legislative experience to NYSERDA, and offers businesses and residents of the region his expertise in good constituent service," NYSERDA President, William M. Flynn said.

Since 1996, Sigurdson has served as Chief-of-Staff to the Erie County Legislature, and prior to that, 13 years on the staff of the New York State Senate. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from Buffalo State College.

"I am looking forward to matching NYSERDA's innovative and cost-saving programs to the wide range of industrial, commercial and rural communities this Western New York office serves. Also, schools, local governments, and homeowners are all eligible for NYSERDA's cutting-edge energy solutions. These efforts reduce costs and strengthen our regional economy," Sigurdson said.

Across the far western region, (Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegany, Wyoming, Genesee and Orleans counties), since 1998, NYSERDA has sponsored 630 projects, with a combined funding value of $111 million. Among the well-known companies participating are Tops Markets, Moog, Motorola, Quebecor Printing, Buffalo China, CALSPAN, and Clean Air Technologies. Funding has also improved the energy efficiency of more than 20 local schools and colleges, along with 11 health-care related facilities. Several projects involve Erie County government and municipalities, including the Town of Amherst.

NYSERDA's Buffalo Regional Office is in the Market Arcade Building, 617 Main Street, Suite 105, Buffalo, NY 14202. For more information on NYSERDA please visit www.nyserda.org or, www.GetEnergySmart.org., or call the Buffalo Regional Office at (716) 842-1438 or toll-free 1-866-NYSERDA.
