ST. LAWRENCE-LEWIS BOCES
TO RECEIVE ENERGY EFFICIENCY TECHNOLOGY
NYSERDA will provide more than $64,000
Albany, NY The New York State Energy Research and Development
Authority (NYSERDA) will provide $64,200 for lighting upgrades and
occupancy sensors in six St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES buildings.
Two of the BOCES buildings are located in Ogdensburg, while the remainder
are located in Canton, Gouverneur, Norwood, and Richville. Sempra
Energy Solutions, a New York State company located in Latham, New
York, is the contractor that will oversee the installation of the
energy saving technology.
William M. Flynn, President of NYSERDA said, "Providing financial
incentives for energy-efficiency improvements to our schools is important.
The financial incentive provided to the St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES School
Board will be used for energy-efficiency improvements in six district
buildings. The improvements not only provide financial benefits for
the district, but also provide an improved environment for students
and staff who occupy these buildings."
Senator James W. Wright, Chairman of the New York Senate Energy
Committee stated, "The installation of energy efficient lighting
and occupancy sensors will decrease power usage, thereby decreasing
energy costs. The St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES District, which provides
educational opportunities for students from18 local school districts,
should see lower electric costs, while reaping the benefits of new
lighting technology. "
Assemblywoman Dierdre K Scozzafava said, "Energy conservation
is vital if we are to lower our utility costs and become energy self-sufficient.
I commend the Board of Education of the St. Lawrence-Lewis Board of
Cooperative Educational Services for authorizing these energy saving
measures."
Funding for this project is provided through the Commercial and
Industrial Performance Program which is a component of the New
York Energy $martSM Program. Financial incentives are
paid on a performance basis to contractors implementing cost-effective
electrical efficiency improvements or demand reduction for eligible
industrial, commercial, institutional, and governmental electric distribution
customers.
The New York Energy $martSM programs are funded
by a System Benefits Charge (SBC) paid by electric distribution customers
of Central Hudson, Con Edison, NYSEG, Niagara Mohawk, Orange and Rockland,
and Rochester Gas and Electric. NYSERDA, a public benefit corporation
established by law in 1975, administers SBC funds and programs under
an agreement with the Public Service Commission. The programs are
designed to lower electricity costs by encouraging energy efficiency
as the State's electric utilities move to competition.
