NYSERDA and Con Edison to Hold Peak-Load Reduction Workshops in Queens
and Manhattan
Free Sessions to Show Commercial and Industrial
Users How to Earn Extra Cash by Conserving Energy This Summer
New York, NY The New York State Energy Research and
Development Authority (NYSERDA) and Con Edison today announced they
are sponsoring two free workshops to show commercial and industrial
users how to get paid while conserving electricity during times of
peak electric demand this summer. The free workshops are open to all
businesses in the Metro New York area and will be held from 8 a.m.
to 10 a.m. at the Con Edison Learning Center in Queens (43-82 Vernon
Boulevard) on Wednesday, May 21, 2003; and at Con Edison Headquarters
in Manhattan (4 Irving Place) from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June
3, 2003.
The workshops will inform business people how to take advantage
of the incentives available through the New York Energy $martSM
Peak-Load Reduction Program, which is designed to keep the power flowing
in New York. The workshops will also offer detailed information on
a variety of ways to participate in the program, including shifting
or curtailing operations during peak load periods, installing permanent
energy-efficient equipment, or for larger operations, installing an
interval meter for participation in the State's Demand Response Program.
"Last summer, the Peak-Load Reduction Program paid more than
$3.3 million to more than 900 Con Ed customers in the commercial,
industrial and multifamily building sectors. It is a win-win'
situation for all who participate," said NYSERDA Acting President
Peter R. Smith. "Not only will participants avoid high electric
price spikes, but they will be paid for shifting or curtailing their
electricity use during times of peak electric demand, and in turn,
help provide a more reliable power supply for New Yorkers. These workshops
will offer valuable information and guidance in regards to the Program."
Participants can register for either workshop by calling 212-971-5349
or call NYSERDA at 212-971-5342, ext. 3001. For more information on
