FlexTech – Technical Assistance Program

Customers Targeted

New York State (NYS) industrial and commercial facilities, State and local governments, not-for-profit and private institutions, public and private K-12 schools, colleges and universities, and health care facilities.

What these Programs Offer

The overall goal is to increase productivity and economic competitiveness of participating facilities through implementation of cost-effective, energy efficiency measures, peak load curtailment and CHP & renewable generation projects.

These services are provided on a cost-shared basis, and include:

  • Engineering feasibility and technical assistance studies
  • Detailed analysis of specific energy efficiency projects
  • Process improvement
  • Peak-Load Reduction and Load Management
  • Rate analysis, load shapes, and energy service aggregation
  • Engineering in support of project-financing proposals
  • Development of long term capital budget strategies for the upgrade or replacement of energy-consuming equipment
  • Retro-Commissioning of energy-efficiency measures in existing buildings
  • Combined Heat & Power
  • Renewable Generation

For Energy Efficiency, CHP, and Renewable Technical Assistance projects NYSERDA will cost-share up to $500,000 on selected studies over five years. For electrical customers of Consolidated Edison Company of New York Inc. (Con Edison), NYSERDA will cost-share up to $1,000,000 over five years. A customer may choose to use one of NYSERDA's prequalified FlexTech consultants as their Service Provider, or an independent Service Provider, which includes, but is not limited to ESCOs, energy consultants and utility companies.

Customers seeking energy efficiency studies with annual electric utility bills of less than $75,000 may be eligible for the energy Audit Program, which provides low-cost, walk-through energy audits.

FlexTech Program

NYSERDA has contracted with engineering firms that were competitively selected through an RFP process, to provide a variety of technical assistance services to New York State companies, custom-tailored to their energy-related needs, through the FlexTech program. NEW OFFERING

NYSERDA is pleased to announce an innovative approach to using the FlexTech Program, Energy Manager for Hire. This program offers the option of hiring one of NYSERDA’s FlexTech consultants to provide cost-shared in-house energy management. The Energy Manager will be available to carry out energy management responsibilities at the hiring facility, including but not limited to:

  • Identifying no-cost / low-cost energy saving options
  • Identifying cost-effective opportunities for increasing energy efficiency
  • Acting as the owner’s representative for energy efficiency projects
  • Developing RFPs / review proposals for energy commodity, products, or services
  • Developing a company-wide energy policy
  • Coordinating energy management activities and plans
  • Quantifying project impacts toward achieving the company’s climate-change goals
  • Creating an energy awareness plan for employees

Technical Assistance Program

Participants may choose to use their own qualified consultant to perform a study through the Technical Assistance program, currently PON 1197. Potential Service providers include, but are not limited to, ESCOs, energy consultants and utility companies.
