Project Title: Transportation Infrastructure Research
Consortium
New York State Department of Transportation, Albany,
NY
DESCRIPTION
Transportation infrastructure, systems, vehicles, and related environmental
impact mitigation in New York State are necessarily influenced, implemented,
and managed by the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT).
Maintaining and improving these efforts in an era of rapid technological
change requires the combined specialized skills, knowledge, and capabilities
of the public, private, and university sectors. Collaboration is necessary
to formulate innovative alternatives, and to develop, demonstrate, and
deploy practical and cost-effective technology and solutions. No one
sector can accomplish this alone.
In support of the NYSDOT State Planning and Research (SPR) program,
NYSERDA administers a private sector based consortium comprised of
seventeen businesses, not-for-profits, and professionals with a track
record of performing transportation-related research, development,
and demonstration. The goals of the partnership are to complement
NYSDOT's planning, design, construction, operation and management
capabilities of New York State's transportation network through creating
a cross-functional and multi-disciplinary approach to problems and
identifying state of the art innovative solutions to a wide range
of transportation issues.
The NYSERDA Consortium members listed below have strong existing
research programs that conduct high-quality R&D resulting in useful
technology transfer; broad expertise in all areas of transportation
and related environmental impact mitigation research; knowledge of
New York State's needs and concerns; strong interest in collaborating
with other organizations to achieve success; and a strong financial
base, including a history of leveraging scarce research dollars to
bring projects to a successful conclusion.
